Huge opportunities exist for mechanical engineers and they are being employed in nearly every industry. The department of Mechanical Engineering was established in the year 2011. The department is well poised to shape the students to become highly motivated Scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs, & policy makers needed to address complex societal issues.

Students of Mechanical engineering programme should at the time of their graduation be in possession of

  • Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems
  • Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations
  • Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations
  • The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice

Department activities 2018-2019
  • The Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering has inaugurated the students association “ACES” and “Tornados” on 13.07.2018 at 10.00 a.m. in the Seminar Hall. Dr. N.Sundharamoorthy, Head of the Department, Mechanical Engineering welcomed the gathering. Dr.T.R.Chinnusamy, Associate professor, Mechanical, has introduced the office barriers for the academic year 2018-19 of Mechanical department followed by the introduction of Office barriers of Civil department by Mr.K.Mohan, Assistant Professor, Civil. The presidential address was given by our beloved principal Dr.R.Radhakrishnan. Prof.P.Ramalingam, Head of the Department, Civil, felicitated the gathering. Mr.B.Mohanraj, IV Mech, Introduced the chief guest Er.K.SENTHIL PRABU, Senior Inspection Engineer, ABS Industrial Verification India Pvt. Ltd., Coimbatore. The chief guest started his session with the importance of Nondestructive testing and continued with the companies available for Mechanical Engineers in India where they can get a great exposure about the NDT. Also he explained the uses of NDT in Civil Engineering. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr.S.Navin Prasath, IV year, Civil Department.
  • The Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering conducted One Day Seminar on “Non-Destructive testing” on 13.07.2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Seminar hall. The resource person of the seminar was Er.K.SENTHIL PRABU, Senior Inspection Engineer, ABS Industrial Verification India Pvt. Ltd., Coimbatore. Dr.N.Sundharamoorthy, Head of the Department, Mechanical Engineering welcomed the gathering and handed over the session to the resource person.
  • The student association “INOVACE- 2K18” of Mechanical Engineering department have Organized National Level Technical Symposium at Sri Shanmugha College of Engineering and Technology on the fine morning of 23.09.2018 at 10.00 a.m. in auditorium. Er.K.Selvaraj, Managing Director, Hi-Tech CNC Academy, Coimbatore were the chief guest of the function. Mr.B.Mohanraj, President/Student Association welcomed the gathering. Dr.N.Sengottiyan , Director/ SSCET, delivered the presidential address. Dr.R.Radhakrishnan, Principal/ SSCET delivered the felicitation address. The chief guest Er.K.Selvaraj emphasized the opportunities for the engineers in the Core industry. The students from 35 engineering colleges have participated in various events like Paper Presentation, CAD modeling, Quiz, Robo arm, Short Film etc. In paper presentation 25 papers are presented by various engineering students out of 48 received papers. The valedictory function held at 4.00pm. The prizes and certificates are distributed to the participants. The feedback collected from the participants. Prof. M.Kandasamy delivered the vote of thanks. The function ended with National Anthem.

  • A National level Technical Symposium INOVACE’17 was conducted for Mechanical Engineering students in Sep-2017. The chief guest K.Pandian M.E., M.B.A., F.I.E Deputy General Manager. SAIL, Salem Steel Plants, Chairman, Institute of Engineers, and Salem Chapter shared his industrial experience and expectations of industry with the students. Events like PAPER PRESENTATION, CADD MODELLING, H2O PROPULSION, SHORT FLIM, TECHNICAL QUIZ, CONNEXIONS, Mr. DETECTIVE, Mr.MECHANIC , were conducted. Nearly 100 students participated from various colleges in this event.
  • 3. One day National Level Conference on "RECENT TRENDS IN APPLIED SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY" (RTAST’18) was conducted on 2nd MARCH 2017. The Chief Guest address given by Dr.V.Chandra Prabhu ASST.PROFESSOR, DEPARTMENT OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING, Adama Science and Technology University, Ethiopia.
