ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Considering the importance of conserving natural resources, proper land management and to provide quality education on agriculture to the rural masses, the department of Agriculture Engineering was established in the year 2016 with an intake of 60. Sri Shanmugha vows to promote agriculture by bridging the gap between agriculture and latest technology. Our primary motive for offering this course is to serve the farming community by inculcating the effective utilization of available resources with the motto: “Resources are limited but creativity is unlimited’. Sri Shanmugha provides state-of-the-art agricultural practices to the farmers and the society at large, ‘for a better and a greener tomorrow’.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES (POs)

PO1 Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PO2 Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

A brief about the Association

The Society of Agricultural Engineering Shanmugha (SAES) is a student association focused on promoting the field of agricultural engineering and enhancing the career prospects of its members. Its primary objective is to provide a platform for students to develop their skills, showcase their talents and engage in both technical and non-technical activities related to agricultural engineering. SAES organizes a variety of events aimed at enriching the academic and practical knowledge of its members. These events may include seminars, workshops, conferences and competitions covering topics ranging from cutting-edge agricultural technologies to sustainable farming practices. By participating in these activities, students gain valuable experience, network with industry professionals and stay updated on the latest developments in the field. In addition to technical events, SAES also focuses on nurturing soft skills and fostering personal development among its members. The session was about the value-added food products of moringa, its nutritional benefits, and its cultivation practices. Next, he told about his success story from an IT employee to an agribusiness entrepreneur. He explained tremendous information to students about the value addition in food products and their scope in market. He quit his job at the time of the pandemic situation. He started a new agri-related business, mainly focused on value added products from moringa.

He delivered the present status of farm mechanization in India and the influencing factors that play a role in the agriculture sector. Various types of farm machinery, such as transplanters, weeding equipment, harvesting machines, baler machines, seed and fertilizer applicators, etc., In the current scenario, he explained the problems faced by the farmers clearly. Durring the afternoon session, hands-on training for various farm machines and their working functions was also explained, including the soil moisture meter, grain moisture meter, etc.

AAVIN MILK SOCIETY, CHITHODE conducted the Internship Training program on Milk processing and packaging using automatic equipment’s. They provide training about value addition products and various lab testing like fat analyzer. 4 Students from the Department of Agriculture Engineering attended and successfully completed their training program from 17.07.2023 TO 04.08.2023.
