                                    INTRODUCTION

                                    The College is set to achieve the next level of excellence through a well- designed Research To this end, the faculty members are continuously urged to take up research projects and publication works with greater assiduity and passion. This is to ensure that in due and inevitable course,Sri Shanmugha College of Engineering and Technology (SSCET), Salem achieves recognition not only as a college that imparts quality education, but also as a college that has outgrown its undergraduate character to evolve into an institution of genuine and meritorious research and development.

                                    • The College stresses the need to expand its footprint in consultancy, copyrights, and patenting of ideas emerging from research.
                                    • To provoke more meaningful engagement in Engineering Solutions with various multi-disciplinary applications, the College is also mooting the idea of setting up a Special Interest Group (SIG) which helps the faculty member and researchers to work with diverse tools for taking up their.
                                    • The college also plans to implement a scheme to support and incentivize professors who take up research publications in peer-reviewed journals listed in SCIE, Web of Science, Scopus, and other reputed platforms, patenting the idea (both national patent and International Patent).

                                    PLANNED INCENTIVES:

                                    • An annual yearbook will be published listing publications with impact factors, citations, h-index, and other numerical quality measurements.
                                    • A scroll of honor will acknowledge individuals with special mention in the annual yearbook.
                                    • Two members from each faculty in each department will be shortlisted based on the highest score calculated on the total of (each publication x impact factor). They will receive awards acknowledging their contributions to their respective fields.
                                    • Special mention on the College website with dedicated Research and Publication Notice Boards. Digital notices will highlight noteworthy publications.
                                    • Publications will be shelved in hard copy in a special section in the library dedicated solely to publications by college faculty. An online repository will also be established.
                                    • Seed money (up to a limit of rupees 20,000) will be provided to attend conferences for presenting papers, covering registration or traveling expenses.
                                    • Adjustment of teaching workload to facilitate and support faculty engagement in research activities.
                                    • Promotion to Professorship will be based on years of service, merit, and the quality of publications.

                                    STRATEGIES EVOLVING TO ACHIEVE THE TARGETS OF THE RESEARCH POLICY

                                    • Promotion of inter-disciplinary research collaborations across all departments through project proposals and grants funded by national and international research bodies and MoU partners.
                                    • Incentivizing staff members to publish research papers in standard journals.
                                    • Encouraging and incentivizing faculty members to edit and publish monographs and books on subject-specific topics.
                                    • The College recognizes Ph.D. recipients among its faculty and students at the annual Convocation and Valedictory ceremony.
                                    • Research output is an essential criterion for faculty recruitment.
                                    • The College maintains a regulatory body, the Research and Development (R & D) Cell, which conducts research-related activities.
                                    • Encouraging student research, both independent and collaborative, with faculty. Departmental magazines and journals regularly feature students’ research articles.
                                    • To further encourage research by faculty members, the College reimburses expenses related to registration, travel, participation, and presentation in national and international seminars, conferences, etc.
                                    • The College has subscribed to the Anti-Plagiarism policy in line with research ethics and conduct.
                                    • Health and safety protocols in line with ISO 9001:2015 standards are maintained in all research activities.
                                    • To secure national and state-level grants for research promotion and innovation, the college actively participates.
                                    • The R & D Cell of SSCET helps faculty members secure industrial project grants and consultancies, facilitating effective Knowledge Transfer to students to meet industrial research requirements.
                                    • The consultancy cell proactively provides research-based consultancy to industry and other business firms.
                                    • Developing in-house products from research, for example, the Electric Bike Department of Mechanical Engineering, utilized for emergency needs to students and staff at no cost.
                                    • The college supports the filing of patents and trademarks.

                                    Incentives for faculty members

                                    Asset

                                    Research Papers/Patents/funded projects:

                                    • a) The research paper must be published as a full paper in a journal (SCI/Scopus) or a proceeding with a minimum impact factor of 0.5. The incentive would be paid in the following manner:
                                    • - Impact factor: 1 or higher, Incentive (Rs): Up to 10,000
                                    • - Impact factor: 0.75 to 0.99, Incentive: Up to 8,000 rupees
                                    • - Impact factor: 0.5% to 0.749, Incentive: Up to 5,000/-
                                    • b) A maximum of two research papers in an academic year shall be considered.
                                    • c) Faculty members requesting the incentive must be the first or corresponding author. They should ensure that the institute name appears as the affiliating college in the published work before publishing any research article; otherwise, the incentive or reimbursement will not be granted.
                                    • d) Rs 50,000/- for an international patent and Rs 10,000/- for a granted national patent. Please note that the management will pay the filing charges if the applicant works at SSCET.
                                    • e) 5% of the sanctioned amount will be given to the faculty member who is the principal instigator.
                                    For the Academic Year 2022-2023, management has given sponsorship of Rs.45,000 for publishing 11 patents in different domains.

                                    Conferences:

                                    • a) Faculty would be permitted to avail OD plus an up to Rs. 1000 registration fee.
                                    • b) Faculty members receive funding to present research papers at conferences twice during the academic year.
                                    • c) An incentive of Rs. 15,000 or 75% of the travel expenses, whichever is less, will also be awarded for attending conferences in India and the rest of the world.

                                    FDP/Seminar/workshops

                                    • a) Faculty may avail OD plus a registration fee of up to Rs. 500.
                                    • b) Workshops, seminars, and FDPs may be attended by each faculty member twice throughout the academic year with financial support.

                                    Book Publication:

                                    If a national publisher publishes the book with an ISBN, an incentive of Rs 10,000 will be awarded. In the case of multiple authors in the book, the cash amount will be distributed to all authors.

                                    NPTEL Certification:

                                    If a faculty member passes the NPTEL exam, they will receive an incentive of Rs 1000-2000 (depending on the certificate (elite/elite silver/elite gold).

                                    For the Academic Year 2022-2023, the management has given tuition fee Concession of Rs.51,000 for Student Achievers in NPTEL Examination and also Rs.13,000 given as incentives for faculty members those who have cleared NPTEL Examination.
