Sri Shanmugha Educational Institutions
The SSCET takes pride in having a Library with build-up area of 454 Sq.m. It has a well-furnished reading hall. SSCET Library uses fully automated ILMS software by AutoLib. The automated package of library services provides circulation, acquisitions, cataloguing, web OPAC, Report Generation, Email & SMS Alert etc. Book database is created along with the user’s database. The students and Faculty members are encouraged to utilize the learning materials available in the library. Patrons can borrow books using the ID card issued by the college. Issue return process is fully automated and manual cards are kept as supporting documents for students and faculty.
SSCET library follows bar-code system to track the movement of the books and to check the availability of the books. The Central Library subscribes to national and international journals. e-Journals like Springer, ProQuest, J-Gate are available in the Library. For accessing the E-resources computers with LAN connectivity are made available for students and staff members. The Library is also Wi-Fi enabled. Free internet browsing and photocopying facilities with nominal charges are also available throughout the working hours in the central library to cater to the needs of staff and students.
The NDL [National Digital Library] is a digital repository containing textbooks, articles, videos, audio books, lectures, thesis and all other kinds of learning media. It provides a single-window search facility to access all digital contents and sources under a single umbrella at free of cost.
The NPTEL and DELNET facilities are very useful to the students & staff. Inter library loan[ILL] facility is also available in DELNET, the students and staff can request for books, photocopies and Articles by ILL. To watch NPTEL and Swayam MOOC’s videos a TV and Swayam Prabha DTH Dish connection with 32 channels are available in the library. Apart From that epathashala,e PGpathashala .The Open access system is practiced in the library. Besides the central library, departmental libraries also function in the SSCET campus. CCTV cameras are placed at strategic points in the entire library for surveillance.

MISSION OF CENTRAL LIBRARY
- Selecting, acquiring, organizing, maintaining and making accessible a collection of printed and non-printed, primary and secondary materials that will support the educational, research and public service programmers of both students and the faculty.
- Providing library users with point-of-use instruction, personal assistance in conducting literature research and other reference services.
- Providing an environment conducive to the optimum use of library materials and an appropriate schedule of hours of service and professional assistance.
- Enhancing the library’s resources and services through cooperative relationship with other libraries and agencies.

THE ACQUISITION SECTION
Collect requests for books from the faculty and interacts to place orders with the selected suppliers, accessioned the procured books and transfers them to the Technical Processing Section for classification, cataloging, indexing and database entry.
TECHNICAL PROCESSING SECTION
Technical Processing Section plays a key role to function the library. It makes a bridge between the acquisitions of documents to the Circulation.
- Classification of books following DDC latest edition
- Cataloging of books following AACR-II
- Preparing / Updating Database using AUTOLIB software
- Updates database for the classified books also for Binding, Lost Books etc, Stamping and labeling bar-code, spine-label.
- Generates list of new arrival of books which includes bibliographic details including Abstract.
- Displays the hard copy of new arrivals on the board (weekly). Simultaneously those books are kept in ‘New Arrival’ Display.
CIRCULATION SECTION
Circulation Section performs issue, renewal, return of books using AUTOLIB software. Book reservation, various e-mail alert generation, etc. and Circulation related queries by the users are being performed by this section.
PERIODICAL SECTION
Periodical section contains publications which have single title and deposit number issued at regularly or irregularly such as newspapers, Magazines, pamphlets and reports. The section is working on all its acquisition available to readers.
DIGITAL SECTION
The Digital Library Section maintains a large Number of Digital collections like CD/DVD ROMS and online study materials.
REFERENCE SECTION
The library has a good reference collection consisting of various encyclopedias, dictionaries, year books, almanacs, atlases, biographies, etc. of the national and international coverage and other reference books. Sufficient reading tables and chairs are provided to the members.
BOOKS
The Library has abundant collection of books 23028 Volumes comprising of 4670 titles and 1343 CD’s on various branches of Engineering and Science & Humanities. Besides subject collection of books, the Library also has specialized collections for English communication skills.

Current Awareness Service (CAS)
Announcement of the various institution regarding seminar, workshop and conferences etc will be displayed (Library Notice Board). Photocopies of the articles published by the faculty/students in various periodicals will be displayed and also send as e-mail to faculty, student and other staff in the name of News Paper Clippings.
Inter Library Loan (ILL)
Books (not available with us) may be obtained from other libraries on request. The institution is a Member in Developing Library Network (DELNET).
OPAC
The entire Library collection including books, journals, etc. can be searched through the web enabled Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Users can access the OPAC to find out the real-time availability of library materials from their own computer terminals. The library maintains a separate reference collection consisting of encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, technical data, and CD-Rom etc. Reference books are marked by REFERENCE ONLY. Readers may approach the circulation section for information

This is an e-mail service which enhance the interaction between the user and the library. Reminder will be given to return the long due library material.
Library Orientation
Central Library offers the orientation program to the students and others in the beginning of every academic year. Through this program, an effort is made to familiarize with the resources, services, and facilities offered by Central Library and its policies to use the same.
New Arrivals Section
In the New Arrivals section, one copy of the new title or new edition is displayed for one month for attracting the students and staff members for using the library effectively and at the same time updating their knowledge.
