Mission of the Central Library

  • To select, acquire, organize, and maintain a diverse collection of printed and non-printed materials – both primary and secondary—that supports the educational, research, and public service programs of students and faculty.
  • To provide users with point-of-use instruction, personal assistance in literature research, and other reference services.
  • To create an environment conducive to the optimal use of library materials, with an appropriate schedule of service hours and professional assistance.
  • To enhance library resources and services through cooperative relationships with other libraries and agencies.

About the Central Library

  • The Central Library is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities and covers an area of 574 square meters. It houses a well-furnished reading hall, a Digital Learning Centre, a reference section, a journal section, and more.
  • It is functioning with fully automated Integrated Library Management System (ILMS) software provided by AutoLib. The automated library services provide circulations, acquisitions, cataloguing, web OPAC, Report Generation, Email & SMS Alert etc.
  • Students and faculty members are encouraged to utilize the learning materials available in the Central Library.
  • A bar-code system is used to issue, receive, and track books, as well as to check their availability.
  • The library is equipped with reference books, textbooks, national and international journals, magazines, newspapers, and more.
  • The Digital Library section offers internet access and provides access to e-resources such as N-List, DELNET, ProQuest, ELTAI, and NPTEL.
  • Facilities available include internet, Wi-Fi, photocopying, and scanning services for staff and students.
  • Additional amenities include a TV and Swayam Prabha DTH Dish connection with 32 channels for NPTEL and Swayam MOOC videos. Epathshala and e-PGpathshala resources are also available.
  • An open access system is practiced in the Central Library.
  • CCTV cameras are installed at strategic locations throughout the library for security.
  • In addition to the Central Library, departmental libraries are also operational on the campus.

ACQUISITION SECTION

Collect requests for books from the faculty and interacts to place orders with the selected suppliers, accessioned the procured books and transfers them to the Technical Processing Section for classification, cataloging, indexing and database entry.

CIRCULATION SECTION

Circulation Section performs issue, renewal, return of books using AUTOLIB software. Book reservation, various e-mail alert generation, etc. and Circulation related queries by the users are being performed by this section.

PERIODICAL SECTION

Periodical section contains publications which have single title and deposit number issued at regularly or irregularly such as newspapers, Magazines, pamphlets and reports. The section is working on all its acquisition available to readers.

DIGITAL SECTION

The Digital Library Section maintains a large Number of Digital collections like CD/DVD ROMS and online study materials.

REFERENCE SECTION

The library has a good reference collection consisting of various encyclopedias, dictionaries, year books, almanacs, atlases, biographies, etc. of the national and international coverage and other reference books. Sufficient reading tables and chairs are provided to the members.

REPROGRAPHY SECTION

Reprography in a library is the process of reproducing materials through mechanical or electrical means, such as photocopying, xerography, microscopy, duplicating, and in-plant printing.

Current Awareness Service (CAS)

Announcement of the various institution regarding seminar, workshop and conferences etc will be displayed (Library Notice Board). Photocopies of the articles published by the faculty/students in various periodicals will be displayed and also send as e-mail to faculty, student and other staff in the name of News Paper Clippings.

Inter Library Loan (ILL)

Books (not available with us) may be obtained from other libraries on request. The institution is a Member in Developing Library Network (DELNET).

OPAC

The entire Library collection including books, journals, etc. can be searched through the web enabled Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC). Users can access the OPAC to find out the real-time availability of library materials from their own computer terminals. Reference and Information Services

The library maintains a separate reference collection consisting of encyclopedias, dictionaries, handbooks, technical data, and CD-Rom etc. Reference books are marked by REFERENCE ONLY. Readers may approach the circulation section for information

Library Orientation

Central Library offers the orientation program to the students and others in the beginning of every academic year. Through this program, an effort is made to familiarize with the resources, services, and facilities offered by Central Library and its policies to use the same.

New Arrivals

In the New Arrivals section, one copy of the new title or new edition is displayed for one month for attracting the students and staff members for using the library effectively and at the same time updating their knowledge.

Reprography

Reprography services allow users to make copies of materials from books, journals, newspapers, and pamphlets.

Lending Rules:

 

Teaching Faculty     : 5 Books with the duration of 90 days & 1 renew with 30 days

Non-Teaching Staff  : 3 Books with the duration of 30 days

Students         : 3 Books with the duration of 10 days & 1 renew with 7 days

 

General Rules and Regulations in Library

 

Dos and Don’ts in Reading / Stack Area:

  • Maintain silence in the library; no discussions are allowed.
  • Always present a valid college ID at the entrance.
  • Mobile phones must be kept on silent mode; their use is prohibited in the library.
  • Return books before their due date.
  • The identity card is non-transferable.
  • An overdue charge of Rs. 1/- per day will be applied for each book not returned by the due date.
  • Books may be renewed only once for an additional 7 days, provided there are no reservations against them.
  • Handle books with care; you will be charged for any damage.
  • Do not use highlighters, pens, pencils, or any other materials to mark books or print materials.
  • Books cannot be returned on the same day they are issued.
  • All books must be returned by the end of each semester.
  • If a library book is lost, the student will be charged double the book’s market value plus a fine or must replace it with a new copy plus a fine.
  • Do not bring borrowed books into the reading or stack areas.
  • Personal belongings and food are not allowed in the library.

 

Dos and Don’ts in Digital Library:

  • Computers in the library are to be used for learning purposes only.
  • Online chatting and browsing social networking sites are strictly prohibited.
  • Playing games on library computers is not allowed.
  • Changing the settings or display of library computers is not permitted.
  • Readers should not remove or unplug computer cables, network cables, or other peripherals.
  • Pen drives are not permitted on library computers.
  • A fine will be imposed in cases of misuse of the computer systems.
